Pain in General

Pain is an element of many illnesses, and chronic pain has different impacts on individuals. It is one reason for people to seek medical help, may it be from serious surgeries to the prescription of drugs to treat mild to moderate pain. One of such illnesses is back pain, which nearly 8 out of 10 people from all ages experience.

Back Pain in Working Individuals

For working individuals, back pain is a prevalent complaint no matter what the type of work is. Several studies show that it is one of the leading causes that limits people’s work productivity as well as the cause for absence in the workplace. As to the ultimate reason why back pain exists or how it starts is still a matter of question. However, it has been linked to poor posture, obesity, aging, heavy backpacks, excessive activity, and work-related habits like sitting in front of a computer on long periods throughout the day. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), “In the United States, an estimated 149 million work days are lost every year because of low back pain, with total costs estimated to be US$ 100 to 200 billion a year (of which two-thirds is due to lost wages and lower productivity).” People experiencing back pain would most often seek medical care to either find out its causes, or ask for remedies to ease the pain. Due to this, some become dependent on opioids or any other painkiller because of being unproductive if they do not take such.

Acupuncture for Back Pain

The good news is that acupuncture has been proven by some researches to help with back pain. It has been used as treatment for chronic back pain where in the same researches claim proven to be more effective than the standard treatments. Acupuncture does not include the intake of any sort of drug which will also prevent individuals from being dependent on them. Instead of taking pain killers, the use of acupuncture helps in the release of endorphins from the brain, as well as the release of natural opioids which will help in controlling or treating the pain. With this, acupuncture is the healthier option as it lacks the adverse effects that too much drug intake can bring.
